Glistening magnificence of Pockanchery tradition in medical diagnosis and treatment, Chandhu Vaidyar and P.C. Ramakrishnan Vaidyar stand as lustrous as diamonds. From this illustrious pedigree comes the Ayurvedic maestro and the eminent cardiac expert of this day of ours – Dr.P. R. Jayathilakan. He belongs to our Pockanchery family division that settled at Thriprayar from Calicut as per the Zamorin’s advice. Dr. Jayathilakan is the son of a great father, a man of brilliance with which he democratised Ayurveda. That this father, P.C. Ramakrishnan Vaidyar, moulded his five children, out of the total ten, as eminent physicians bears testimony to his brilliance and dedication for his cause. It also reveals the traditional boon our family enjoys as one of gifted physicians. Dr. Jayathilakan was born on the 10th of January, 1943 to Pockanchery Ramakrishnan Vaidyar and Devakiamma. |

After securing a covetous degree in Ayurvedic Medical Science from Shornur Ayurveda College, Dr. Jayathilakan started his career as a medical practitioner in the Kerala Government Ayurvedic department. Just two years prior to his retirement, the burning realities around him made Dr.Jayathilakan pay his entire attention, time and resource in combating the cardiac diseases. He couldn’t no longer turn deaf towards the lamentations of the hapless and penniless cardiac patients. With the unbearable expenses of the Allpathic medicines, being a cardiac patient meant being in hell. Dr. Jayathilakan took the pledge to redeem the poor from this hell... “The penniless heart patients too must get treatment. Their diseases too must be cured”- It was Dr.Jayathilakan’s firm resolve. The son of a man who lived for the downtrodden couldn’t have thought any other way. Dr. Jayathilakan had seen his father Ramakrishnan Vaidyar treating cardiac patients. With that memory ripe, Dr. Jayathilakan was getting ready for a dip in the holy water, a deep, deep one. His researches and searches in this regard fetched him some invaluable medicinal inscriptions on ‘Thaliyola’ (Palm leaves). Following those inscriptions he concocted medicines and observed its effects on various cardiac patients...
Thus began the saga, the saga of Dr. Jayathilakan, the living exponent of the legendary Pokkanchery tradition of ours. The comprehensive Ayruvedic heart treatment incorporating the scientific truths and observations have so far saved the precious lives of 85,000 cardiac patients. And now the heart touching treatment from Thriprayar in Thrissur is gaining world wide recognition. The honour conferred on him by IMM Bocham, Germany with the title”Ayurveda Cardiologist” is its indication. Also to be mentioned that UDMA and IMA selected him for conducting discussions on the export of the special Ayurvedic medicines for cardiac diseases. Jaycees Professional Excellency Award, Gandhian Sevana Puraskar, Nehru Peace Foundation Puraskar, V.K.Krishna Menon Award... the list of honours that came in search of this genius is evergrowing.
